Business success through "continuous learning".

Continuous learning remains a critical area for every business, whether it is to enable/engage your people in their careers or help you acquire or retain your talent so hungry employees continue to quench their thirst for knowledge and bring value to further the realisation of the organisation's potential. After all, human's are learning organisms and we see continually see breakthroughs in most walks of life, everyday, as a result of our curiosities and experimentation. A new training paradigm has to be set in the digital age, one that promotes a "continuous learning" discipline. Part of this discipline is to set a learning path which builds on the business skills required to enhance knowledge and drive curiosity. It also becomes so much more important to navigate to the right business programmes, which is not so easy considering the plethora of learning providers and options available. Time is also part of this discipline and what is the right combination of programmes and in what format. Any new skills and competences taught/coached must result in enabling employees to remain valuable to their employers and visa versa. To develop this thinking further and to build successful training for people and organisations, I believe employee performance is dependent on two factors, “ability" and "motivation". As trainers constantly strive (with mixed results) to meet their objectives to deliver a robust functional training agenda that will up skill and cross skill employees (thereby adding "ability"), so too must they consider their part in motivation. Coaching is a great opportunity to deliver on "motivation" and training programmes/interventions need to be structured with this in mind. Quite often we are “trained” but not "motivated". A training programme needs to be turned into a compelling operationalised learning experience that delivers exceptional learning points, tools and references as well as coaching individuals & teams to develop their motivation so they can apply and disseminate the learning in their organisations. The digital age has disrupted most industries as web innovations constantly challenge industry norms to provide a more frictionless world with exciting new opportunities & possibilities. To survive and prosper in this environment, we must constantly build upon key skills, as well as apply a motivational coaching factor so your people can keep experimenting, developing those opportunities and possibilities and be rewarded with business success and of course...rewarding careers.
